Snake bites in rural Pakistan: do and do not

Keep still and calm

Movement spreads venom faster. Keep the bitten limb still and below heart level.

Remove tight items

Take off rings, bangles and tight clothing before swelling begins.

Avoid the old remedies

Do not cut the wound, suck it or tie a tight tourniquet. Go to a hospital with anti-venom as quickly as possible.

Still, calm, hospital. No cutting, no sucking.
