Winter gas heaters: why a slightly open window matters

Gas heaters keep Pakistani homes warm, but in closed rooms they quietly use up oxygen and can release carbon monoxide.

The gas you cannot smell

Carbon monoxide has no colour or smell. Early signs feel like tiredness or a mild headache, so people often go to sleep instead of getting fresh air.

Ventilation is the simple control

A window opened a few centimetres and a heater switched off before sleeping remove most of the risk.

Check the flame

A steady blue flame is a good sign. A yellow or orange flickering flame can mean poor burning and needs a service.
